I tried seatools booted from a USB, but couldn’t work out how to use the program to repair the HDD.
I realise I may have to give up and dump this HDD, but want to be certain I have tried everything first. Windows drive manage shows it as bad, with no option to do anything.I ran seagate tools for windows, the short and long test passed, but when I selected fix everything, it failed.did a sector test with Aome partition manager and it started reporting sector errors immediately, but allowed me to rebuild the MBR ? I unplugged the Sata data lead, allowed windows to boot then reconnected it.
Windows refuses to boot up with it connected. The linked article in the question refers to an answer by " Ivan" who says that "disk geometry for the disk is determined by the ending CHS value for the first partition" and seems related to the initial 100MB partition being smaller than 8GB on certain systems/chipsets. In response to hanging on POST due to small anomalies and changes to disk geometry (at the beginning and especially end of the disk): Clean the disk.This is just one idea so all the advice is the same:
Assuming you are not required to load special drivers for your disk, when you're done with your disk test (which you may as well finish), note that your question implies you may have an unclean partition layout.Ī format doesn't wipe partition layouts, which Windows will care about but SeaTools should not).
